My Declaration of Self-Esteem By Virginia Satir

I AM ME

In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me
Everything that comes out of me is authentically me
Because I alone chose it - I own everything about me
My body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions;
Weather they be to others or to myself
I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears -
I own all my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes
Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me.
By doing so I can love me and be friendly with me in all my parts -
I know there are aspects of myself that puzzle me -
and other aspects that I do not know, but as long as I am friendly and loving to myself,
I can courageously, and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles -
and for ways to find out more about me.
However I look and sound, whatever I say and do,
and whatever I think and feel at a given moment is authentically me.
If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought and felt turn out to be unfitting,
I can discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest,
and invent something new for that which I discarded.
I can see, hear, feel, think, say and do.
I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive,
To make sense and order out of the world
Of people and things outside of me.
I own me, and therefore I can engineer me.

I am me. And I AM OKAY.

THE PETITION

We call upon the Immigration Minister to grant Florence and Michael the right to remain in the UK on compassionate grounds

Florence was persecuted in Sierra Leone because she is a lesbian & she is seeking asylum for herself & her 3 yr old son, Michael. She fled Sierra Leone because of physical & mental abuse because of her sexuality. She was beaten by her parents and forced by them into marriage with a relative, who then raped her.

Florence went to two police stations for help but they turned her away, saying it was a family matter. She tried to find a safe place to stay but could not and was forced to return home to face more abuse and violence.

Homosexuality is illegal in Sierra Leone, which is a very homophobic society. In September 2004 Fanyann Eddy, of Sierra Leone Lesbian & Gay Foundation was gang raped & murdered in the foundation’s office Sierra Leone authorities, what chance does Florence stand?

She was horrified when told her parents were planning to force her to undergo female genital mutilation, commonly called female circumcision, as they believed this would ‘cure’ her. This process involves mutilating a woman’s genitals, often resulting in serious infection and illness, and sometimes death.

Florence arrived here accompanied by man who had been paid by an American woman she knew to get her out of Sierra Leone. When they got to immigration control he disappeared, taking Florence’s papers with him. She was completely on her own.

Her application for asylum was refused, despite her distressed state when she arrived, she was pregnant as a result of rape & unrepresented. She was also unrepresented at her appeal as she did not have the £500 solicitor’s fees to be represented.

Florence has suffered from depression due to the stress and trauma of her life, and her son, Michael, is suffering with her. His speech and development have been seriously affected by their unsettled life. Florence and Michael have been moved six times since she arrived by the National Asylum Support Service, on whom she is dependent.

Please sign it. This is so wrong. The judges are claiming she isn't gay because she had a baby, but that baby was a result of rape. They will send her back to almost certain death.
If we all sign this, it might help. Just do it. Please.

I MET SANDI THOM TODAY!! AND SHE SAID MY HAIR WAS AWSOME! :D :D
I got her autograph and everything! AND I was on the ST Paddy's Day parade! It was awsome! Me Megan and Anna all had our tricolours draped round us in the parade, waving Tricolours & flags covered in shamrocks. It was awsome.
So was the concert Sandi did. Her new stuff is awsome. Punkrocker and Horsepower were the best songs of the set.
Lots of pictures. Try and get them up soon!

Yesterday was incredibly fun!
Went out for lunch with Mum, Granny, Shannon and Nathan to Pizza Hut. Ate waaaay too much, but it was good. Shannon managed to *accidently* let slip to granny that mum had married her first husband so he could get a visa to stay in the country. THAT was awkward, but funny.
Then mum, Shannon and I went to the cinema and watched Freedom Writers. That movie is INCREDIBLE. I cried, laughed and was inspired.
Came home, mum and Stephen went for the night, and I cooked a rather scrummy tea for me, Shannon and Granny. Made fajitas. Spicey!

Was chatting to Julian last night on MSN. He's such a lovely boy. I'm very glad I have a friend like him.

So this morning I was reading news on msn.com, and found out the minimum age for X Factor has dropped to 14! So I'm currently filling out the application form. I'm not expecting to get in, although that'd be nice. I just want to see what Sharon thinks of my singing! Nevermind Simon and the other two new people. Sharon's nice, and I'd like to know what she thinks.

In the process of re-adding people, so I shall go and try to finish that off.
Bye bye!
